The people of Northeastern Pennsylvania, through their labor with coal, iron and steam, were the foundation of America's success. More than 30,000 men and boys lost their lives to anthracite mining. The Anthracite Heritage Museum is located in McDade Park in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The Museum tells the story of the people who came from Europe to work in the anthracite mining and textiles industries. On a tour of the facility visitors will experience the lives of proud people who endured harsh working conditions yet carved out communities filled with tradition. The diverse collection highlights life in the mines, mills and factories. Visitors are welcomed into the family’s homes and neighborhoods with a moment of reflection in the kitchen, a visit to the pub, or a seat in a local Church. Event Calendar Next Event July 14-17, Tuesday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Children’s Anthracite Heritage Camp: Fueling our Nation! $40.00 per child for Associates members. Reservation required. Please call the Museum at 570-963-4804. Enrollment is limited so reserve your child(ren)’ s place today! Children ages 7-12 will learn about different forms of energy--coal, water, wind, wood, solar--as well as animal and human power and transportation through stories, crafts, food, music and hands-on. The camp will be conducted by professional staff and volunteers. Children will establish friendships among children from different backgrounds and interests.
